Shocker: Ecosport Could Start at Rs 5 Lakh!

In a shocker of a news bit, Autocar Editor Hormazd Sorabjee has scooped that Ford’s Ecosport could start at as low as Rs 5 Lakh! 

On his television show at Bloomberg TV, Hormazd said that Ford is preparing to shock everyone by pricing Ecosport at a price which we all can not comprehend right now. He adds that they are working on a very high level of localization to achieve their target. A price tag of Rs 5 lakh for the base petrol variant, which we all know will be with the famed Ecoboost, might be on the cards.

If this goes true, this will be a revelation of sorts and might just do what the Figo has done for them earlier. If anything around or slightly above is the price of entry level Ecosport, it will undercut even Mahindra’s Quanto, which is perceived as one very VFM compact UV in India. Yes, it comes in diesel only but still! We are talking about two vehicles with different aspirational values!

Coming straight to the main target, Renault Duster might just be the worst hit. From a current monthly figure of over 4000 units, how much will it fall will be one interesting scene to watch out for. Everyone was expecting the famed Ecoboost to be placed at a lesser distance than the diesel against the current norms of almost over 1-1.5 Lakh differences. This is not impossible. Ford has done with the Figo and the results are in front of them to see. We have already predicted four reasons why Ecosport should be priced sensibly.

If you are still unaware than Ford Ecosport will come with 2 engines. The petrol version will be powered by the famed 1.0L Turbocharged motor which is equivalent to a 1.6L Naturally aspirated petrol and a lot more fuel efficient. It produces 120PS of power output and 170Nm of torque. The diesel mill will be the same 1.5L from new Fiesta.

We all are expecting launch of Ecosport pretty soon and if this is what Ford has in mind, we will not mind a slight delay as well. Bring it on Ford…!
