We had already given you hints a couple of months back. One in May and the other one in June, that Skoda will officially unveil the new Octavia A7 for the Indian market sometime in August this year.
And now Autocar has confirmed that Skoda’s chairman of Board of Directors, Dr. H.C. Winfried Vahland, will unveil the car on the 9th of August for India. With this Skoda will bring the once famous Octavia brand back to India and the new Octavia A7 will replace the existing Laura.
Skoda is betting big on the Octavia A7 and it is expected to be priced pretty well. According to Autocar, Octavia can enter at a price tag of under the current Laura’s 12.9Lakh. The new Octavia is based on Volkswagen’s new MQB platform and new design language. It gets the Skoda’s butterfly grille upfront and sharper smarter edges which make it look a lot more contemporary.
In terms of engines, new Skoda Octavia will get 1.4L petrol TSI from Jetta and a higher tuned version of 1.8 TSI. The 2.0L TDI diesel motor will propel the car under two tunes – ~120bhp & 150bhp. Skoda will also launch an Automatic version which will carry a DSG box as we have busted earlier.
The new Octavia will go against the likes of Chevrolet Cruze, Toyota Corolla, Hyundai Elantra among others in this segment. However, 9th August is just the unveiling day and the car will actually be launched a little later, possibly in the following couple of months.
With a competitive price tag, Octavia brand name and a host of new features, Skoda is all out to create a new war in the dying segment.
