Skoda to Launch Rapid Facelift; Engineered in India for the First Time

Skoda, because of its not-very-helpful approach towards its customers, has really been a laggard when we talk about its sales in India. Despite being in the market for so many years, it is still one of the least selling car manufacturers in India.

They have shown some real intent to do better with newer products but only time will tell how much will they be able to succeed. Currently, Rapid sedan is their best selling product with sales averaging about 1000 units per month. But when we compare it with other sedans in its segment, the picture isn’t as rosy if you are a Skoda fan.

Rapid - Flash Red

Skoda has been trying hard to battle it out with numerous measures like narrowing down the spare parts non-availability issue, reintroduction of Fabia, a bigger SUV over Yeti, Yeti facelift, restructuring the organisation along with other belt-tightening measures.

However, what is happening for the first time ever is the engineering of a new product from India. According to a report on Economic Times, Skoda is slated to launch a facelift for Rapid but the more interesting news bit is that it will be designed and engineered here in India.

Not many details are revealed by the report but we believe Skoda may launch the Rapid facelift within this year with the new 1.5L diesel engine and DSG Automatic gearbox. This is the same engine which the Polo and Vento facelift will also get shortly.
