There is so much planned by Volkswagen on their only hatch Polo for India and it seems we are the party spoilers for them always.
In a first, we revealed pictures of CNG powered Polo (along with Vento CNG), followed by a hidden-badge mule which we felt was the 1.2 TSI and now this one without any badges. With a small place-holder (for GTD badge) at the front grille, we feel this might be the upcoming 1.6L GTD.
What is Polo GTD?
Volkswagen will be plonking Vento’s 1.6L diesel engine on the Polo to endow it with a typical Hot hatch characteristics. With a considerable weight difference and more power/torque Polo GTD will be a stonker of a machine to drive around. Since it would breach the 1.5L capacity of a ‘Small Car’ and will become a ‘Medium Sized Car’, excise duties will more than double and hence a higher price tag will go along with all the hotness, but it will be the only performance-oriented hatch in the country!
Volkswagen is on the verge of launching the GTD Polo and we can safely expect it in a few months from now.
