Meanwhile, Chevrolet seems to be bracing up for its assault on the EcoSport and the Duster with its version of compact SUV, Tracker.
We might be met with “Fala sério!”…..Yes of course, we are serious!!
The Tracker had captured a lot of screen space when it emerged that it was going to make it to the Brazilian roads in 2013. Watchful eyes have now managed to get their hands on some exclusive Tracker shots as it underwent test runs at a place called Lomas de Zamora in Buenos Aires province of Argentina.
A few hundred miles away, the Argentine subsidiary of Chevrolet issued a Press Release stating the arrival of Tracker in Argentina in 2013. It was also informed that the premiere of the Tracker in both Brazil as well as Argentina will take place in the second half of this year. The automaker has stressed that the model will be christened Tracker, unlike the Trax badging in quite a few other nations.
The Tracker will be squatting upon a Compact Car platform known as GSV, which is made use of in models like Onix, Sonic, Cobalt and Spin. At the heart of Tracker will lie the 1.8 L Ecotec mill which propels the Chevy Cruze. It will be married to a five-speed manual/six-speed automatic tyranny.
The Tracker is almost a semblance of the EcoSport at a length of 4.25 metres, width of 1.77 metres and a wheelbase of 2.55 metres. Chevrolet has confirmed Trax/Tracker for other countries like China, Australia and Korea.
As the Compact SUV segment flourishes in India, Chevrolet might consider bringing the Tracker to our pot-holed roads. In fact there have been a few speculations of Chevy considering Trax for India. However, there has been no official word from the company on that. We feel Tracker is one car that has the potential to do a Duster for Chevy in India. Are you listening, Chevy!
