A few days back, AutoCar’s revelation of Mahindra’s S101 Compact SUV had caught everyone by surprise. A rendering was also presented which gave us a hint of what to expect.

Now, we have the first spyshots of the compact SUV which was caught by the folks at Motor Vikatan. As is the case with Mahindra’s test mules, we can not make out much of the car apart from its body proportions and a few curves. First up, the S101 appears to be completely different from current Mahindra’s SUVs.

It is curvier and has a falling roofline towards the rear. The front headlamps are interestingly, circular instead of rectangular in shape. The rear also has false tail lamp cluster. It appears that this is just a camouflage and final product will have a different form. There are also a few parts missing, which we can assume, are still not decided and frozen upon.

According to the speculation, Mahindra might just price this at a shocker of price tag- something around Rs 5 Lakh. S101 is based on an all-new monocoque chassis and it will be a small sub 4 meter mini SUV. It will be a front wheel drive car and will get engines adhering to the ‘Small’ car excise duty¬†definition¬†ie expect a 1.5L diesel and a 1.2L petrol motors to do duty.

S101 will have a 6 seater version and there is a chance that Mahindra might consider an 8 seater as well. Apart from the S101, Mahindra will also work on more luxurious trims of this platform (S102). How about Mahindra calling this as XUV300? And since the car is already on the roads for testing, we expect to see a lot more revelations in the times to come.

If a monocog SUV gets priced at around 5 lacks then it can kill entry leval sedans and primium hatchbacks.
