SPIED: Next-Gen Hyundai i20 Spotted Alongside Polo & Swift

The next-gen Hyundai i20 had been snapped in India a few times earlier around Irrugattukottai (TN) where Hyundai has its manufacturing facility and it has started making its appearance onto the interweb yet again!

Pictured here are spyshots from the Facebook page of Motor Vikatan, a Tamil language publication and indianautosblog.com. Interestingly, reportedly, the new i20 appears to be getting benchmarked with the VW Polo and market leader Maruti Suzuki Swift.

The latest spotting shows the updated i20 all covered in a padded coverall to break the vehicle’s design lines and changes made to the exteriors. One thing that would strike about the new i20 is its length, which seems to have increased. At 3995 mm the overall length of the i20 has always been knocking at the 4-meter excise duty mark. The spied images of the new version suggest that the upcoming i20 might have used the remaining 5 mm of buffer available to the current version of the car.

In a speculative rendering shots pictured earlier, the new i20 looked a lot more premium and muscle with flared wheel arches and creases. The current crop of i20 comes with 1.2L Kappa 5-Speed manual or U II 1.4L CRDi 6-speed manual or the Gamma 1.4 VTAT 4-speed automatic. The output ranges from 84PS to about 100PS and are likely to remain unaltered on the new i20.

A limited road-legal edition of the beautiful i20 WRC would be desirable (at least a few cues from it), but let’s first get the levelheaded version of the i20 for a start. And BTW, the 1.6-liter turbocharged in the i20 WRC is capable of erupting red-hot 300 bhp.

As of now, there are no official words from Hyundai regarding the launch date but we expect the unveiling towards the end of this year and a market launch soon thereafter.
