Maruti Suzuki’s WagonR is one of the top 5 selling cars in the country. Though not one of the best lookers but it scores full marks when we talk about practicality. In order to further enhance this aspect, Maruti has introduced Auto Gear Shift (as Maruti calls its AMT gearbox) in the WagonR and Stingray. With a starting price of Rs 4.76 lakhs (ex-showroom Delhi) AMT will be available only in VXi variants.
Maruti’s Auto Gear Shift (AGS) gets an Intelligent Shift Control Actuator which automatically performs the task of operating the clutch and shifting gears. AGS essentially combines the actuator and controller by directly mounting them in the transmission to combine the working components. This even helps in reducing the shift timings as against conventional automatic gearboxes.
The cars retain the same 1.0 litre all aluminium K series 3 pot petrol engine which produces 68 PS of maximum power at 6,200 rpm and a peak torque of 90 Nm at 3,500 rpm. At 20.51 kmpl, the fuel efficiency of WagonR AMT is same as the manual variant.
Apart from AMT, Maruti now offers ABS and dual airbags standard across the range for both WagonR and Stingray which means these two safety features are available right from the base variant (in optional trims).
