Production Ready Alivio (Ciaz) Reveals Honda City-like Rear & Interiors in China

The Ciaz concept shown at the Auto Expo has been a big point of discussion in India. And in China as well Suzuki is planning to launch it soon albeit under a different name Alivio.

The car has been spied numerous times and this time, it reveals its body proportions, under-body, interiors and rear which looks almost-copied from New Honda City.

The Indian mid-size sedan segment is ruled by the Honda City (and Verna) and it will be an extremely difficult task for Maruti to copy Honda’s sales figures. Copying City’s rear end though, will definitely not get them any brownie points. The Alivio spy shots courtesy Carnewschina.com show a duck billed lip protruding out of the boot much like the Honda City. Though many may say that this might be an inspiration from the Kizashi, Suzuki seems to have over done it by adding the chrome strip right above the number plate like the City.

The number plate is also likewise housed in a similar six edged depression. The tail lamps though seem to have an almost identical shape, it thankfully uses a different lay out. The chrome lined reflectors also add much needed relief to the otherwise dull rear bumper. The chrome strip on the side door panel also is a nice little addition.

Apart from that, new spyshots of Alivio from Autohome.com.cn, reveal simple yet sober instrument cluster, rear AC vent, fairly spacious trunk, 16 inch tyres and its underbody.

Maruti Suzuki is trying to succeed in the premium segment in India with the Ciaz and it will slug it out against the Hyundai Verna and Honda City. Maruti’s earlier venture into the mid-size sedan segment did not really give it the desired result. Their first answer is going to be the Ciaz/Alivio and then sometime later the S-Cross, which is a crossover version and will be targeted at Duster and the likes.
