Suzuki Baleno is Back – Official Name of Upcoming YRA Hatch [Video]

It is no more a secret that Suzuki will be launching a new premium hatchback globally which will be positioned over the Swift. The car has been known with various names – in India it has been codenamed as YRA, internationally Suzuki showcased it as iK-2 at Geneva, a few portals came up with a name – Fronx. In an important update, through a teaser video (appended at the bottom), the company has now released its official name and it is the reincarnation of the brand name – BALENO!

India saw a C-segment sedan under this brand name which was placed over Esteem and was replaced by SX4 in mid-2007. Interestingly, the Maruti Baleno of the bygone era began as a three door hatchback and four door sedan with the name Cultus Crescent. The new Baleno will officially break cover at the 66th Annual Frankfurt International Motor Show on September 15, 2015.

We are not sure at this moment, if Maruti Suzuki will be using the same global Baleno name in India but it will help them in branding since a lot of us actually know and love the brand.

The car internationally is going to be fitted with a new 1.0 litre turbocharged petrol mill however, India might not get this one to keep the prices competitive, at least initially. It might be armed with the familiar 1.2 liter or 1.4 liter K-Series petrol engine and the Fiat sourced 1.3 litre multijet diesel in VGT (90 odd PS trim). Globally the car will also be fitted with a mild hybrid system.
