Mahindra first launched the Rexton in October 2012 after Mahindra bought a majority stake in the Korean SsangYong. The Korean SUV specialist has earlier been owned by Daewoo Motors but was offloaded due to Daewoo’s internal bleeds!

Auto Expo: Mahindra Showcases Rexton With 2.0L Diesel Engine; Indian Launch Possible
Mahindra Ssangyong’s Rexton is the premium-most SUV in the portfolio. It has been received reasonably well in the cities it is sold in. The current Rexton comes with a 2.7L 5 cylinder DOHC diesel engine which produces 162bhp of power and 340Nm of torque.

Mahindra-SsangYong unveiled at the Expo 2 new important vehicles from the SsangYong stables; namely, the Rodius MPV and LIV-1 Concept. The partnership has also showcased the SUV Rexton with a new 2.0L e-XDi Active diesel engine.

The deregulation in diesel prices has finally opened up Mahindra’s eyes. After facing a slumped demand across all its product categories, it has now embarked on a journey with Ssangyong to smelt brand-new petrol engines. Till date, Mahindra has only diesel engines powering its whole lineup.
