Tata’s Two Upcoming Sub-4 meter Compact Sedans – Falcon 5 & X0 Compact Sedan

It is Tata Motors which should be credited for exploring this sub 4 meter compact sedan segment in India with its Indigo CS. It was the leader until other biggies like Maruti Suzuki and Honda joined the bandwagon with their Swift Dzire and Amaze compact sedans.

The end result is that Tata has been sidelined and new cars are making their space in this segment pushing the Pune based manufacturer further down the ladder. It, now appears that Tata intends to take the game in its own hands and has a real aggressive lineup planned specifically for this segment.

Apart from the already existent new Indigo eCS, Tata intends to launch not one but two new cars in this segment. Here are the upcoming sub 4 meter compact sedans that will be hitting our shores along with their expected timeline.

  1. Falcon 5 aka Manza CS: Launch Oct-Nov 2014
  2. Compact Sedan on X0 Platform: Launch in 2015

The Falcon 5, as it has been codenamed, is based on the X1 or the Vista platform and will be a shortened and bettered version of the current Manza with a chopped boot to bring it under that sub 4 meter mark. It will sit over the current Indigo eCS.

On the other hand, Tata has also plans to launch a new compact sedan on the new X0 platform (as reported by Economic Times) which is expected to see light of the day sometime in 2015. We expect it will be a grounds-up project with a better and new design specifically made for a small sedan.

It appears impossible for a company to stuff as many as 3 models in this sub 4 meter compact sedan segment which broadly spans across from Rs 4.5 Lakhs to 8.5 lakhs. And hence, we expect Tata to discontinue their Indigo eCS before the X0 Compact sedan is launched in the market.

It is an interesting battle brewing up as the older battered players intend to snatch their pie back and current leaders do all they could to protect their share.
