Tata managed to shock everyone with a killer price tag for the Tiago, their latest small hatch. Bringing in several premium features, the company also decided to go big on marketing this time. To promote the Tiago they had roped in none other than the Argentinian football legend Lionel Messi. As a part of this drive 11 lucky Tiago owners went to Barcelona to meet Messi!
Starting at a highly disruptive pricing of Rs 3.20 lakhs for the base variant and going up to Rs 5.54 lakhs (both ex-showroom, Delhi) for the top end trim, the Tiago seems to be a great buy. Powering the car are new 1.2 litre petrol (85 PS/114 Nm) and 1.05 litre diesel (70 PS/140 Nm) mills. The petrol claims of a fuel efficiency of 23.84 kmpl, while the oil burner will return 27.28 kmpl!
The Tiago 11 contest was hosted on Tata Motors’ Facebook page and Twitter handle. The contest saw an engagement by thousands of fans. Initially the car was named as the Zica but the launch was delayed as Tata had to search for a new name for the car due to its similarity with a deadly virus. This time they decided to use an innovative way of finding a new name! They took out three names and asked their fans to select the name of the new car.
