Compact Crossover Based on Toyota Corolla Spotted Testing for the First Time

Toyota is reportedly testing a compact crossover based on their highly popular sedan Corolla. The car is rumoured to hit the streets worldwide in 2017 to fight the likes of the Ford EcoSport, Trax and others.

Looking at the success of the compact SUV/Crossover segment, almost every manufacturer seems to be readying some or the other product in this segment to snatch a pie. These spyshots which you see here are snapped by spy photographer’s of Caradvice.com.au somewhere in Europe.

More than an ‘SUV’ per say, this appears to be a spruced up hatchback, but probably better than the ones we currently have (Cross Polo, Etios Cross). This Corolla based crossover will be placed under the RAV4 and is surely taller than the sedan. It gets high profile tyres and bigger wheels for that crossover feel.

It seems to have a higher ground clearance than the Corolla which surely is expected. The front radiator protection grille looks to be completely inspired from the Corolla. The head lamp cluster though is slightly different and ends up being a single barreled unit, or at least that is what it looks like. The fog lamp cluster, as well as the Outside Rear View Mirrors (ORVMs) also appear to be the same.

Toyota might end up adding a lot of body cladding to make the car look a bit more sturdier to make it an appealing prospect. According to reports, this car may be termed as Auris Cross or Corolla Cross but by 2017, it may be late to the party. There is also a possibility of the company launching it with new engines.
