Toyota to Launch Vios Sedan in India Against City & Verna

Just a few days back we had reported that Toyota is working on a new mid-size sedan to slug it out against the Honda City and the Hyundai Verna. Further adding to the speculation was the report that it may not be Vios which is already being sold in the Asia-Pacific region and instead, it may be an all-new car based on the Etios platform.

Continuing on the same story, Nikkei.com reports that Toyota is indeed considering launching a higher C-segment sedan in India but it will NOT be an all-new car and it will be same Vios which sits under the Corolla in the international markets. However, according to the report the launch will be sometime around 2017 which is a good three years away.

The Vios, if launched, would be the most aggressive looking cars in Toyota’s Indian line-up, following the design cues of the new Corolla and the international Camry. The interiors should also be pretty upmarket..they have to be!

Vios, with its huge air intakes, daytime running lamps along with an aggressive front makes it a looker! This will also imbibe among Indians the feeling that Toyota can also make modern and more aggressive looking cars.

Vios is expected to continue with engines from the Etios ie the 1.5L petrol mill and the 1.4L diesel engine but we do expect more oomph for a car of this size. The car has two tone interiors in black and beige as well as a touchscreen infotainment system along with lots of chrome.

The question now is, will Toyota succeed in anything below the Corolla?
