Hyundai’s i20 is a fantastic car, a very good offering to pamper those who want something more than an average hatchback and yet not those bulkier sedans. The premium hatch territory sees the i20 as one of the best offering in the country and the highly popular car does some pretty good business.
What is known, through various unofficial and official reports and spyshots is that Hyundai is preparing the next-gen i20 and it has been under tests in India and internationally since last year.
The car has been clicked a many times earlier but with heavy camouflage. And in a new update the next-gen i20 has been busted in the first ever completely uncamouflaged spy shots that have appeared at Autocar India today morning.
The very European looking car gains on the sharpness factor but loses on the curves (though only a bit). The Grand i10 inspired front radiator protection grille and the new bumper add to the oomph factor. The fog lamp unit though appears similar. It gains much more imposing lines on the door panel as well as the engine hood, making it look muscular, something different from the signature Hyundai fluidic design philosophy.
The A, B and C pillars look to be bigger versions of the Grand i10. The sharp C pillar and an equally edgy A pillar have a sporty look and the overall size looks larger. Even the new alloy wheels look gorgeous and that sculpted and edgy rear end is a treat. The thin tail lamps remind of a certain Subaru, leading to an impressive stance, something which we all love.
The interiors are expected to be upmarket and classy, fit to mollycoddle you and keep your eyes glistening with joy. The engine options though are expected to be similar as the present generation.
As we have been talking about it for the last few days, there is a possibility that Hyundai may repeat the i10-Grand i10 story on the new i20 as well. This means that, while the world will get this next-gen i20 as a replacement to the existing car, Hyundai India may call it as Grand i20 and launch it as a more premium over the existing car (and continue offering the current gen).
This makes sense considering that the strategy has worked out for the Korean so far and the current i20 looks absolutely fresh and there is no need for it to die a pre-mature death! Hyundai will launch of the new (Grand) i20 during the festive season this year in India.
