Upcoming Tata Bolt Test Mule Spotted in Tamil Nadu by a MotorBash Reader

We have a couple of spyshots of a camouflaged Tata Bolt undergoing test runs at a place called Avinashi in Tamil Nadu. The car was spied by one of our readers who doesn’t wish to be named.

It can be clearly seen that the test mule carries a dummy tail-lamp setup which is not the usual Christmas-Tree configuration that Tata cars are known to come with. The change goes in accordance with the job that was handed over to the Tata designers; to change the Tata Vista radically.

However, the Bolt isn’t an all-new hatchback. we can safely call it as a Vista redesign but a comprehensive one at that! Much of the exterior sees the addition of new parts like the Projector Headlamps and LED tail-lamps, even though the basic shape of the shell stays familiar. The Bolt receives a better and longer feature list, not to forget the projected better design and build quality as well. During our short stint with it at the Auto Expo, the car did look a lot better put up with minimal panel gaps.

Bolt will come with the following feature list :

  • Touch-screen infotainment unit
  • Harman Kardon Speakers
  • New electronic power steering replacing the hydraulic one in the Vista
  • The new (possible, not confirmed) AMT system
  • A lot of connectivity options

In all probability, Tata Bolt will cost a bit more than the current Tata Vista Tech model.

The Bolt hatchback will come with the option of an 85PS, 1.2-liter Revotron turbocharged petrol engine and another 75PS, 1.3-liter Multijet diesel engine from Fiat. According to our unconfirmed sources, Tata Zest could be launched by June 2014 with the Bolt following its heels in a couple of months thereafter (more details).

Do you think the Bolt hatchback and the Zest sedan will be able to stem the rot that Tata Motors has been facing?
