Back in September 2013, we published the first ever spyshots of the upcoming Sumo Grande facelift revealing the changes the new MUV will sport. In an exclusive new revelation, we share with you the new upcoming brand name of Tata’s facelifted Sumo Grande.
Under the HORIZONEXT strategy of Tata under which the company will re-launch every model in a refreshed avatar (along with newer cars), Sumo Grande will be rechristened as ‘MOVUS’. This signals that it will move away from being looked upon (currently) as a more premium variant of Sumo (under the Grande name), it will be pitted as an independent model in the lineup.
The basic shape of the upcoming Movus remains similar to the outgoing Sumo Grande with the regular frontal and back changes. The 2.2L DICOR engine of Grande will be carried over to Movus. We expect the power and torque figures of 120PS and 250Nm respectively, to remain with a few tweaks.
Apart from that Tata Movus will come with improved clutch and brakes which will come with an enhanced life. Tata has focussed on reducing the weight of the MUV which will in turn increase the efficiency both in terms of power and fuel consumption. The steering feel and turning radius will also be improved.
Movus will be better in terms of quality and poshness and will also come with a slight price increase. Current Grande retails at something close to 8 Lakhs for the entry BS4 variant and the top of the line GX trim crosses the 9 Lakh point. Upcoming Movus is expected to start at Rs 8.6 Lakhs and spread across till Rs 9.8 Lakhs for the top of the line trim, ex-showroom.
Dealerships have been informed about the new offering and Tata Movus will be launched at the Auto Expo next month.
