2-4 Lakh Nissan Datsun Car by Second Half of 2014, Auto Expo 2014 Display Targeted

Nissan, the Japanese carmaker had announced the revival of its old Datsun brand last month and it will be launched in emerging markets like India, Russia and Indonesia.

Takayuki Ishida, the MD and CEO of Nissan’s Indian Operations said that Nissan is planning to launch its low cost Datsun cars in second half of 2014 with a price tag between Rs 2 lakh and 4 lakh. Also the company plans to display this car at the Delhi Auto Expo in 2014 before its launch. The company plans to produce mass numbers of this car and is also considering to setup a new factory for manufacturing, however the initial production will be done at its existing location at Oragadam, Chennai the company said.

Ishida also said that with the growing demand for diesel vehicles the company is also planning to develop a small diesel engine for its hatchback Datsun.

This is all good news for people who are looking at low-cost, low-frills cars that too from a brand like Nissan.
