2014 Fiat Punto to be Launched Next Month; Current-Gen May Live as Punto Classic!

For some unknown reasons, Fiat has been keeping the new Punto under secrets! They officially unwrapped the Avventura crossover hatch at the Auto Expo and has been taking it to places for promotions.

There were reports of Fiat launching the new Punto a lot later but Zigwheels.com claims that Fiat India has advanced the date of its launch to face the onslaught head on and they say, it will reach our showrooms as early as next month of July.

An even bigger speculation that has been put up says, that Fiat may do a Linea to Punto ie rebadge the current Punto as Punto Classic and sell it along with the new Punto, obviously as a lesser car.

Fiat, in its official roadmap has always talked about the Linea and Linea Classic as two cars but never hinted at the Punto Classic. In fact, at the recently held program in Mumbai where they unveiled their ‘Hello Life’ campaign, the slide they shared did not give any slightest of hints of the Punto Classic but listed Linea and Linea Classic as two different cars. Hence, we have a question mark about any possibilities of Punto Classic at this point of time!

Nonetheless, they have also spied the new 2014 Punto on tests somewhere in Pune. The new Punto, as leaked in a product presentation earlier (pic below), reveals its complete face and as expected, is almost similar to the Avventura, but without projector headlamps.

According to the official confirmation, Fiat will continue to use the same 1.3L Multijet diesel (expected in both 75PS and 90PS trims) along with the 1.2L petrol motor on the new Punto. Though not specifically mentioned, but the 1.4L petrol motor may also be present.

So, if you have been waiting for the Italian hatchback, here it comes closer to its launch!
