Unlike India where it has received fantastic responses, Ford EcoSport is a laggard in terms of sales in Europe. Against its competition like Renault Captur, Peugeot 2008 and Opel Mokka, EcoSport is way too behind in cumulative sales till now.
Just to give you a perspective, Captur sold 1,49,701 units from April 2014 to November 2014 whereas EcoSport has only managed 11,257 units. This is a lot below the expected 36,000 unit sales Ford had anticipated at launch for the complete financial year.
To catapult sales, Ford says they will launch a refreshed EcoSport in May 2015 , details of which, according to Autonews are..
- Rear Spare Wheel: Ford says they will sell the EcoSport Refresh without the exterior spare wheel. However, it will be offered as an optional extra without any extra charges.
- New interior plastics
- Enhancements to the suspension
Despite the exclusion of the exposed spare wheel, EcoSport refresh’s rear door will continue to be side-hinged.
Ford says that they would want to give the new EcoSport a Fiesta like personality, hatchback version of which is the company’s number 1 seller in Europe. It must be noted that Europe gets India made EcoSports which also hints at the possibility of Ford introducing similar changes on the India-spec model as well.
Interestingly, Ford India’s monthly sales reveal that the company exports more cars in international markets than what it keeps for the domestic market.
