2016 Innova Update Spotted Again; Showcase Expected Next Year

Innova is one of Toyota’s best-selling models in India. Launched in 2005 as a replacement for the highly successful Toyota Qualis, the car has been an impressive seller and is regarded as a very comfortable people mover, ruling the MPV segment, despite the outrageous price tag!

Innova received a minor facelift last year and the grand sales continued. However, Toyota has decided to lend it a major upgrade and launch it in 2016 as per Autocar India.

With spy pics that were clicked a few days back, we already know that the new car is already on the roads testing and Autocar has shared another shot of a completely camouflaged test mule. The  new car will continue to be based on the Innovative International Multi-purpose Vehicle (IMV) platform. The chassis will continue to be based on the tried and tested ladder frame setup. Yes, that surely will keep the developmental costs in check!

2016 Innova is expected to carry the same engines, both petrol and diesel. In its current form the diesel produces 102PS of maximum power and 200.1Nm of peak torque from the 2.5L DOHC motor. We would however love a slight power boost to counter the much lower placed Honda Mobilio which produces the same torque and similar power output with just a 1.5L engine.

Current Innova for reference

The basic silhouette of the new mule in the pic looks pretty much the same, however, we do see a reworked front section with a new grille with three broad horizontal lines as well as the air dam and bumper. The mule also runs on restyled alloy wheels with a new design for the window glass near the D pillar.

The mule for some reason appears to be slightly stretched out hinting at the possibility of an increased middle row and 3rd row space. New Toyota Innova with a major refresh and atrocious (expected) pricing – Will it continue its dream run?
