Mahindra Launches XUV 500 Automatic in Australia

Mahindra has started spreading its wings in Australia. While the XUV 500 has been available Down Under for some time now, the Indian SUV specialists have launched its automatic version, starting at 31,900 Australian Dollar (Rs 15.67 lakhs).

Available both in the front wheel drive and four wheel drive variants, the SUV gets a 6 speed auto unit sourced from Aisin. Powering the car in Australia is the same 2.2 litre mHawk 140 mill which churns out 140 bhp of maximum gross power at 3,750 rpm and a peak torque of 330 Nm in the range of 1,600 to 2,800 rpm. The fuel efficiency is rated at 13.51 kmpl.

The Mahindra XUV 500 has carved out a new home in the Australian market and has experienced considerable amount of success. In fact it has become one of the fastest selling SUVs to reach the 150,000 vehicles sales milestone in just 4 years.

Available in Australia only in the W8 trim, the automatic variant of the 7 seater SUV gets features like 7 inch touchscreen infotainment system with GPS, leather seats, three row air conditioning, wireless tyre pressure monitoring, 8 interior LED lights, projector head lamp with static bending lamps and LED daytime running lights, ABS, ESC, Hill hold and hill descent control.

The automatic gearbox requires minimum service and has transmission fluid filled up for life. It also gets a ‘creep function’ for relaxed driving in stop-go city traffic. A manual mode has also been made available in the automatic for the spirited folks seeking more performance when needed.
