Maruti’s 7 -seat entry MPV version of WagonR has been hitting headlines in the past too and there are almost concrete hints that such a car is under works. In fact, it was showcased in Indonesia some time back and the pictures you see here from the same event (credit – automotif.kompass).
Initially, it was rumoured that YJC is the codename of the 7-seat WagonR but that turned out to be a different car. Nonetheless, a latest report at AutosArena.com speculates that the 7-seat WagonR MPV will be showcased at the Auto Expo 2016 in February, followed by its launch a month thereafter.
They say that a prototype (may be codenamed as YCA) was imported into India from Suzuki in October for R&D purposes. 7-seat WagonR is expected to be the stretched version of the current hatchback with additional third row of seats and a car similar in placement like the Datsun Go+ which has received a lukewarm response so far.
In terms of engines, it may be propelled by the same 1.0L or the bigger 1.2L K-Series petrol engines and the 800cc diesel motor from the Celerio. It will be a sub 4-meter car, hence expect prices to be real competitive and there is also a possibility of the affordable MPV getting the AMT gearbox for added practicality.
