Volkswagen has finally unwrapped its much awaited sub 4 metre compact sedan Ameo. Set to be launched in the second half of 2016, the car will be competing against some well established competition like the Dzire and Amaze. Based on the same PQ25 platform of the Polo, the car looks like the hatch with a boot attached in a neat fashion.
The car has been designed and engineered especially for the Indian market and will be manufactured at the Chakan facility in Pune. Sporting signature Volkswagen characteristics the Ameo gets a sharp and sporty stance. Targeted towards the urban youth the Ameo is probably their most important new product.
Powering the Ameo will be the same engine line-up as that of the Polo hatchback which includes the 1.2 litre MPI petrol mated with a 5 speed manual and the 1.5 litre TDI diesel with a 5 speed manual and an optional 7 speed DSG. In terms of safety the car gets dual front airbags and ABS as standard.
Interiors get a dual tone black and beige layout with a silver trim centre console. The multifunction steering wheel with three spokes and is fully adjustable. At first impression seats seem pretty comfortable and the leg room in the rear, though not class leading but follows industry standards. The boot space though is pretty encouraging.
The car also gets first in class cruise control and rain sensing wipers. Other features include rear air con vent, front centre armrest cooled glove box, electronically adjustable and foldable ORVMs, auto dimming IRVM, touchscreen multimedia music system with CD, MP3 player, USB, aux-in, Bluetooth support and SD card reader.
