As We Said, Compact Verito to Come in Diesel Only; Launch in March 2013

All our readers already had a clue about this! Back in July, we reported that there are all the chances of sub 4-meter Verito compact sedan to be launched only with diesel enginesHere AutoCar confirms what we speculated and the launch is expected around March 2013. Following is a speculative rendering of Verito CS by Autocar.

This compact version of the Verito will be less that 4 Meters in length and will be powered by a 1.5-Litre Renault-Sourced Diesel engine. This will attract less 12% excise duty according to Indian Excise Duty structures (Read more about Excise duty structure).

This car will come with a diesel-only option as the 1.4L petrol engine would take it out of the ‘small car’ definition. Also, the diesel version of its larger sibling contributes almost 80 – 90 per cent of total sales. The  compact Verito will retain the same wheelbase but with lesser boot space. If priced competitively, Verito and Verito CS would attack the likes of Maruti Suzuki Swift DZire and Tata Indigo eCS square on!

Considering the smaller range available, we expect Verito CS to be available in lesser trims. A reduction of Rs 30,000-40,000 from the current full-sized Verito is expected.
