Mercedes, the luxury car maker lost second spot to Audi in India. BMW and Audi’s aggressive product strategy has given a tough time to Mercedes. Although the sales & marketing director of Mercedes Benz India Debasis Mitra said, “Our customer do not compromise, and ‘strip down’ models are not for them. We are not selling commodity but luxury. Numbers are not the prime focus today “.
According to TOI, the sales volume for the companies in January-March 2012 is :
Company Sales Jan-Mar’12
- BMW : 2369 units
- Audi : 2269 units
- Mercedes : 2130 units
Despite Mercedes being in the market for almost 15 years, the new bees BMW and Audi has shaken Mercedes sales market by launching new products especially in the entry luxury segment like BMW 3-series and Audi A4.Also BMW has a mini SUV,X1 while Audi is also soon launching mini SUV,Q3.
However Mercedes is confident to maintain its market by launching two new models every year and investing nearly 1000 crore.
