Chew this – a 2.0 liter 4-cylinder with common-rail and DI plus twin turbochargers – the dash from standstill to 100 kmph in 7.9 secs! And it’s a diesel! That’s the new Bimmer earmarked for India and first showcased at the recently concluded Auto Expo 2014.
The all-new BMW 320d Gran Turismo is the diesel variant of BMW’s 3 Series Gran Turismo and comes with an innovative turbocharger technology to develop an output of 184 bhp with 380 Nm from a 2.0-liter diesel mill.
The BMW 3 Series Gran Turismo blends the sporty and elegant coupé design with spaciousness and practicality of a 3 Series sedan. The car is designed to munch miles in style and if you are lucky to find a suitable stretch of tarmac some place during your tour, the 3 Series Gran Turismo will gladly and quickly take you to its top speed of 226 kmph.
This all-new Bimmer has another novel feature up its rear (no pun intended) called the active spoiler. It is automatically deployed at 110 kmph and retracted at speeds below 70 kmph. When deployed at high speeds, the spoiler increases downforce on the rear axle and ensures perfect directional stability. The spoiler also enhances aerodynamics and reduces the drag coefficient according to the BMW literature.
The car also sports a “Panorama Glass Roof” and generous 520-liter luggage compartment extendable up to 1,600 liters thanks to 40/20/20-split rear backrest with fold-down headrests. The tailgate as well as the rear doors can be operated electrically at the touch of a button.
So, whether you are out for business, leisure, or sports, the new 3 Series Gran Turismo (GT) will play along admirably.
