BMW has launched the new 520d M Sport in India for Rs 54 lakhs (ex-showroom, Delhi). Based on the sporty and dynamic new 5 series, the car is locally produced at BMW’s Chennai facility and will be available at all dealerships across the country. Placed below the more powerful 530d M Sport (which gets a bigger 3.0 litre engine), the new version tries to offer athletic elegance without costing a bomb.
Powering the 520d M Sport is the same 1,995 cc four pot TwinPower turbocharged diesel mill churning out 190 hp at 4,000 rpm and 400 Nm of torque peaking in the range of 1,750 to 2,500 rpm. Mated to this is an 8 speed Steptronic Sport automatic transmission which is capable of hurling the car from 0 to 100 kmph in 7.7 second.

It however misses out on 600 watt Harman Kardon Surround Sound system and rear seat entertainment setup found in the 530d M Sport.
Interiors include an M multifunction steering wheel. Safety package includes six airbags, ABS, Dynamic Stability Control, Dynamic Traction Control, Cornering Brake Control (CBC); Hill Descent Control, Side-impact Protection; Electronic vehicle immobiliser, emergency spare wheel and crash sensor.
