BMW Introduces Petrol Powered 520i for Rs 54.0 lakhs

BMW India has introduced a petrol mill to the 5 series for Rs 54.0 lakhs (ex-showroom, Delhi). This move comes barely a few weeks after they introduced gasoline power to the new 3 series. The petrol powered 5 series is brought to India via the Completely Built Unit (CBU) route and is available only in the Luxury  Line trim.

Although diesel had been the preferred fuel type for luxury cars, the recent campaign against the denser fuel has compelled BMW to refocus on their strategy towards petrol. Called as the 520i, the car gets the same 2.0 litre TwinPower mill from the 3 series. It churns out 184 hp of maximum power at 5,000 rpm and 270 Nm of torque which peaks in the range of 1,250 to 4,500 rpm.

Mated to this is an 8 speed automatic gearbox which can propel the car from 0 to 100 kmph in 7.9 second and register a top speed of 233 kmph. The 520i gets an intelligent lightweight construction, auto start-stop, Eco and Pro driving modes, brake energy regeneration and 50:50 weight distribution. The car also boasts of 600 watt, 16 speaker Harman Kardon surround sound system, 10.2 inch colour display for the iDrive infotainment system, adaptive LED head lamps and 18 inch alloy wheels with run flat tyres.

The BMW 520i will be available in the following paint schemes:

  • Alpine White
  • Black Sapphire
  • Imperial Blue Brilliant

The 5 series also includes 520d and 530d with diesel powertrains which are manufactured at their Chennai plant.
