C-Class Rival Jaguar XE Indian Launch at Auto Expo 2016

One of the most awaited premium sedan in India is, without doubt, Jaguar’s XE which will be company’s most affordable car in the world. XE is being developed to fight the smaller luxury cars like the BMW 3-Series, Audi A4 and Mercedes C-Class.

Jaguar has already hinted about XE’s Indian plans and in an update, Autocar reports that the gorgeous looker will be launched here in February at the Auto Expo in 2016, which means we are roughly one year away from its Indian debut.

The report also quotes a company insider hinting that XE may be priced higher than all its rivals since Jaguar doesn’t want to play with the ‘luxury’ quotient of the brand and is expected to offer the car in fully loaded trim(s).

They say that the 2.0L diesel engine which churns out 161bhp of power will be the mainstay for the XE in India and will be followed by a petrol engine in the lineup. Indian XE is expected to get an 8-speed automatic transmission whereas international markets also get a 6-speed manual tyranny.

It is possible that the initial batches of XE may be imported but it is almost certain that after some time Jaguar will begin local assembly to become more competitive in the market.

As we have talked about in our earlier report, base XE costs 27,000 British Pounds which is about 27 Lakhs in INR and if we include import duties, this price may be close to double or thereabouts. For reference, prices of A4, 3-Series and C-Class revolve around 30 lakhs in India.

Jaguar, you need to be sane in pricing the XE here….!
