Just a few days after the Trailblazer was spotted, Chevrolet’s second product in pipeline, the Spin MPV has been snapped by a Motoroids reader. The 7 seater Utility Vehicle is scheduled to be launched sometime next year according to an official confirmation by the company.
Spin will be pitted against the Ertiga and Mobilio, and aims to do a much better business than the lack-lustrous performance by the Enjoy. Spin will be placed over it (Enjoy) and will be a more premium offering.
In terms of dimensions, it is 4,360 mm long, and has a wheelbase of 2,620 mm. The minimum ground clearance is stated as 157 mm.
Spin gets a range of engine options in the international markets which include:
- 1.2 Liter 4 cylinder DOHC petrol producing 86 PS of power at 5,600 rpm and 115 Nm of torque at 4,000 rpm. It is mated with a 5 speed manual transmission. It gets a 50 Liter fuel tank.
- 1.5 Liter 4 cylinder DOHC petrol producing 109 PS of power at 6,000 rpm and 142 Nm of torque at 3,800 rpm. Transmission options include a 5 speed manual and a 6 speed Tiptronic automatic. This also gets a 50 Liter fuel tank.
- 1.3 Liter 4 cylinder CRDI diesel producing 75 PS of power at 4,000 rpm and 190 Nm of torque at 1,750 rpm. Transmission is limited to a 5 speed manual only. The diesel though gets a bigger 53 Liter fuel tank.
General Motors sells the Spin in Brazil, Indonesia, Thailand and the Philippines. Interestingly, the Spin, which has been on sale since 2013, will be discontinued from its first market (Indonesia) soon due to its low sales, according to reports.
It is a make or break situation for Chevrolet and they desperately need a hit product to ensure they have some decent business in this country…
