Call it funny or a ploy, Chevrolet has just now realized their mistake. The company has slashed prices of the Sail hatchback by as much as (upto) Rs 25,000.
This was propagated through a full front page advertisement of both Sail twins on Times of India. While the information about Sail sedan was nothing new, but it contained a new price tag for Sail U-VA. The starting price tag of Sail U-VA was listed at Rs 4.19 Lakhs ex-showroom Thane.
This is exactly Rs 25,000 lesser than Rs 4.44 Lakhs which was the price tag when Sail hatch was launched on November 01, 2012. Generally, slashing prices within a few months from launch is not practiced and it conveys the message that the model is not doing well and hence the company is hell bent on reviving its sales.
Either the company did not consider the pricing difference with Sail sedan, which was launched at a very luring price tag of Rs 4.99 Lakhs or this is a desperate attempt to increase sales. We have always been talking about how important both the Sail twins are to Chevrolet and the company should have priced Sail hatch at the now-reduced prices only.
If you thought, that’s about it! Autocar India says that Chevrolet also has taken the U-VA moniker of the car and it will now only be called as Sail hatchback which makes sense. Attaching a name of an unsuccessful car shouldn’t have really been done, at the first place. Moreover, they also report that on the 2012 manufactured models, you can get another Rs 25,000 discount taking the starting price down to Rs 3.94 Lakh.
Sail hatch sold a maximum of 1595 units in November 2012 and for the month of February 2013, their monthly sales figure for Sail hatch stood at only 560 units! Nonetheless, now that Chevy has corrected its mistakes, the very potent and very sensible Sail hatch looks a more tempting deal.
