After a long wait, Maruti Ciaz has finally been launched in India at an attractive starting prices of Rs 6.99 for petrol and Rs 8.04 lakhs for the diesel variant, ex-showroom, Delhi. Ciaz will be fueling a new war in the segment which has seen the entry of new City, Fiesta, Vento and others recently.
Maruti believes that they can better the competition, hoping that majority of the the 14 lakh odd customers who have bought a Swift or a Dzire till now will upgrade to Ciaz as their next mid-size sedan.
CIAZ Name & Bookings:
Ciaz was launched globally at the Kingdom of Dreams in Gurgaon yesterday. Maruti informs that they spent a total of Rs 620 crores in the car’s development. The name has also been interestingly chosen. As per Maruti, Ciaz stands for Comfort, Intelligence, Attitude and Zeal. The company has already received bookings of over 10,000 units and it seems it will only get better thanks to the introductionary prices they have brought the Ciaz out at.
Ciaz’ Best in Class Features:
The car boasts of a lot of ‘best in class’ features, which include:
- Best in class fuel efficiency of 20.73 kmpl with the 1.4 L K-series petrol engine
- Best in India fuel efficiency thanks to the 1.3L diesel mill delivering 26.21 kmpl
- Longest and widest sedan in its class
- 510L of boot space it has also puts it at the top
Ciaz is available in two engine trims:
Ciaz Petrol: The petrol version gets the 1373 cc petrol from the Ertiga producing 92.45 PS of power at 6000 rpm and 130 Nm of torque at 4000 rpm. Transmission options include a 5 speed manual and a 4 speed automatic gearbox (this though will be available only in two trims VXi+ and ZXi). This may seem to be a fall back from the SX4’s 1.6 L petrol but Maruti is looking at a completely different target audience this time.
Ciaz Diesel: The diesel sees the tried and tested 1248 cc DDiS engine sourced from Fiat, producing 90 PS of power at 4000 rpm and 200 Nm of torque at 1750 rpm.
The car will be available in four variants in both petrol and diesel, which entails VXi/VDi, VXi+/VDi+, ZXi/ZDi and ZXi(O)/ZDi(O). The company plans to launch another range topping variant in the future called the ZXi+/ZDi+ in early 2015 which will get all the features of the ZXi(O)/ZDi(O) and a new infotainment system called the SmartPlay.
Ciaz will be available in 7 colours:
