Datsun has kick-started the booking process for its budget hatchback, GO. The launch of the car will be officially done next month, with the deliveries beginning sometime after that.
Nissan is carrying out big half-page advertisements in major newspapers of the country to spread the word. The ad shares the details of the 1.2L petrol engine which Datsun says is fuel efficient and powerful. The advertisement also claims best in class performance as well as features along with lower cost of maintenance. Though not mentioned here, Datsun GO has a rated fuel efficiency of 20.5kmpl.
GO is budget brand Datsun’s first endeavour in around two decades. To cater to the growing demand for affordable and economical cars in developing countries like India and Russia, Nissan resurrected the Datsun brand. As a testimonial to the demand for such cars in the Indian market, Nissan decided to hold the World Premiere event of the GO hatchback in India, last year.
The Datsun GO was on display at the Indian Auto Expo, along with some other products like the Redi-GO concept and GO+ MPV.
The booking of the Go hatchback can be done for an amount of Rs 11,000. Though Datsun has cut down a bit on the GO’s glitziness and feature list to keep costs at bay, the hatchback does compensate for that with its spacious interiors and capable powerplant (coming from the Micra). It will be placed in the sub-4 lakh bracket alongside the Maruti-Suzuki Alto 800 and the Hyundai Eon. Our bet is Rs 2.99 Lac (or under) for the entry level variant.
Not just the GO hatchback, but Datsun also has quite a few other models waiting in the wings to hit the market. The next car coming from their stable is the sub 4 meter, 7 seater GO+, a multi-purpose vehicle based on the GO hatchback itself. You can check its details and pics here.
