Datsun Planning to Launch 5 Models in India; Prices Expected to Start from 2 Lakhs

Nissan’s Datsun is plannig to launch five new cars in India by 2015. They are planning to launch at least three small cars, a compact utility SUV/MPV and a compact sedan. The first car will hit the market by early 2014, sources revealed.

Datsun, the low cost brand will start the car pricing at around Rs 2 lakh. This will give a direct competition to the small car models of Maruti Suzuki, Hyundai and Tata Motors, including the likes of Nano, Alto and Swift. The compact utility vehicle is supposed to battle with the likes of Mahindra & Mahindra’s soon to be launched Mini-Xylo.

Nissan decided to revive its Datsun brand after three decades under ‘Nissan Power 88’ global plan to enhance their sales in the emerging markets by 2016 which will improve company’s growth. According to global consultancy J D Power the Indian car market is expected to be the third largest market globally by 2020.
