Brazil to Get All-Wheel-Drive & Automatic Ford EcoSport

Among the upcoming SUVs, Ford EcoSport is one of the most eagerly awaited cars for the Indian car market.Ford has launched EcoSport in Brazil, which is the first country to get the car. But its only the petrol variants that have made presence. A reader of autossegredos.com.br has spotted an EcoSport, powered by a Diesel Mill!

The photographed car is wearing camouflage but the TDCi inscription was clear.

As the website reports, the diesel powered EcoSport is not meant for the Brazilian market but purely for export purposes. However, this is not what we are writing this article for. We get a sniffing news that

  1. Ford is preparing a 6-speed Automatic dual clutch transmission EcoSport.
  2. And the bigger news here is the All Wheel Drive system that EcoSport would come loaded with.

If we turn our attention to India, EcoSport would be launched during the first quarter of 2013. We know that Indian EcoSport would be powered by a 1.0L EcoBoost petrol engine and would share the 1.5L diesel mill from Fiesta.

We also have spy pics of an Automatic EcoSport caught in India. It is the All Wheel Drive (AWD) that would make an interesting prospect here. The chief competitor Renault Duster doesn’t come with one and inclusion of the same would definitely give EcoSport an upper edge including the expected lower price owing to the car being sub 4-meter in length (Being in the small car category, EcoSport would attract least 12% excise duties)

With the Brazil market getting one, would Ford consider the All Wheel Drive for India as well? Let us wait and see

Another luring prospect is turning out to be the Nissan’s confirmation of its own version of Duster to be launched sometime in 2013.
