Disappointing! New City Diesel May Have Similar Power/Torque Figures as Amaze

What began as a real interesting mystery is turning out to be just another day in the auto industry. New Honda City, which was kept a secret until its official global unveiling on 25th November in India, has received a lukewarm response in terms of its design.

Though it doesn’t look bad from any angle, a wee bit more was expected specially considering the new smashing 2014 Jazz (New City is based on 2014 Jazz). Nonetheless, it was expected that Honda will power it with a Variable Geometry Turbocharger (VGT) instead of the FGT (Fixed Geometry Turbo) on the Amaze, engine being the same 1.5L I-DTEC.

However, Autocar busted the myth and shared that it will continue to be FGT. In a new development, Hormazd Sorabjee, Editor Autocar, tweets that even the power/torque figures of new City are expected to be around the similar 100bhp and 200Nm! He further elaborates, that Honda may tune the ECU for more efficiency rather than power.

A 100-105bhp, 200-210Nm City is all what is now expected when it gets launched in January 2014 in India, if this report goes true. Reason attributed to this cost-cutting is the price at which Honda wants to introduce the new City in India, just a wee bit over the current one!

If this is true, many of Honda’s fans will be disappointed and further hopes will be pinned on how well the company tunes the diesel engine for it to be a better driver than the current, segment smaller Amaze.

Bookings of the new City are already underway and 2nd January is rumoured to be its official Indian launch date. How many of you are booking one, then?
