EcoSport-Rival Maruti YBA Compact SUV Spotted on the Roads

It appears that we shall forget the fantastic looking XA-Alpha concept that was showcased by Maruti Suzuki at the 2012 Auto Expo, simply because what the company is preparing for our market looks a far cry from what was unveiled. YBA, as it is internally called, is the production Compact SUV from Maruti Suzuki’s stables. We have seen a few spy pics earlier but now it appears that the company has taken it to the roads for its real-world testing, as suggested by this spyshot from Autocar.

Yes, it will be a sub 4 meter SUV which will rival primarily the EcoSport and the upcoming cars from Mahindra and others in this segment. There are speculative names that have been discussed such as ‘Vitara Brezza’ and this report claims that Maruti may name the production version as iV4.

They also say that engine options will continue to be the same 1.2 liter K-Series petrol and 1.3 liter DDIS diesel (from Fiat) which are offered on Swift and Ritz. Maruti may showcase the car at 2016 Auto Expo and a launch thereafter can be expected.

Later on, the report says, that the company may also consider plonking their in-house diesel engine which is under-development. Coming from Maruti, this compact SUV is bound to do well, but what we do not understand is the reason for its muted design?
