EcoSport Rival VW Taigun Showcase at Auto Expo; Indian Launch on the Cards

The Volkswagen Taigun concept, first seen at the Sao Paulo Motor Show in Brazil, was one very interesting looker. Add to that the VW quality and you have a car which is as hot as malagueta pepper. The good news is that it is heading our way as has been in the news for sometime.

Now comes an even better spicy bit. According to a report on Overdrive.in, Taigun will be showcased at the upcoming Auto Expo in Noida next month, a step which brings us closer to its Indian angle! We have covered Taigun in detail but for beginners here are more details about the compact SUV which will rival EcoSport and others.

The concept had a 1.0 liter turbocharged petrol engine good for about 110 bhp and 175 Nm. This motor was claimed to do a top whack of 185kmph and a zero to hundred dash in 9.2 seconds flat. Lesser weight also translated into a very impressive fuel efficiency of 21kmpl. The production version, however, is expected to get the 1.2L TSI motor that has been firing new Volkswagens.

In addition, Volkswagen is also expected to power the Indian Taigun with a diesel mill as well.

The Taigun, it appears is a pint sized powerhouse. Based on the Up! platform, it is only 3.86 meters long and 1.43 meters wide. However, it gets a larger 2.47 meter wheelbase. Do not expect it to be very spacious but what this will ensure is that the Taigun will be a ‘small’ car according to our excise duty regulations, which in turn means that it will attract the least 12% excise duty. This will give Volkswagen some room to play with and hope that they can price it well.

The interior of the car is expected to be suave and high tech pretty much like the rest of the car. More details on Taigun are expected at the Auto Expo when Volkswagen showcases it. When introduced in India, if VW manages to keep the pricing just right there are ample reasons why the Dusters and EcoSports will have a tough time.
