Hyundai launched the new Elite i20 in India on 11th August 2014 and before the completion of its eleventh month, the car has registered sales of over 1 Lac units in all… thats an average of over 9000 cars every month. For a premium hatchback these are magical figures.
In due coarse of time, Hyundai has cleverly carved a niche for the i20. The earlier version was a 5000-7000 average seller and the new i20 has been clocking over 10,000 unit sales for the last four months on the trot! Just to give you a perspective, the new i20 is a higher seller than the lower priced sibling Grand i10! Ever since the second month of its launch, it has been continuously trending in the top 10 cars list per month. For the month of May, it featured just under WagonR, Dzire, Swift and Alto, at number 5.
We are not sure if these figures also include i20 Active numbers since in the SIAM sales report we have, its (i20 Active’s) sales numbers are not shown separately. Anyways, it hardly matters as both the cars are identical save for a few cosmetic niptucks here and there… (here are the differences)
Hyundai has their next focus on their upcoming compact SUV Creta which is being readied for the market and is expected to launch on 21st July.
