Facelifted Swift & Dzire Launch By the End of This Year

News has it that the hatchback Swift and the compact sedan Swift DZire have been to the cosmetic surgeon and are likely to make their public appearance in the country soon. For ease of use, and as is customary, we shall call them the 2014 model facelifts.

The 2014 version of Swift is already in circulation in Japan and some of the European countries, and so we can take it that the facelift bestowed upon the international Swift will show up on the Indian Swift as well.

Moreover, as we understand, Maruti Suzuki will lend the sibling Dzire with very similar changes.

The 2014 Swift for the European and Japanese markets have received the following changes

  • a refreshed, sharper bumper
  • some changes to the front grille
  • a redesigned rear bumper with a narrower housing for the registration number plate
  • Introduction of LED daytime running lights (DRLs)

It also gets disc brakes on all 4 wheels which is one thing we do not see coming to our markets considering the ‘not-so-interested’ attitude of Maruti towards these ‘safety’ features in India. Frankly speaking, the international Swift facelift comes up with very hard to notice changes. We expect similar changes to the Indian Swift & Dzire twins.

However, it is on the feature front we feel the new Swift will make an interesting preposition. In a spotting of a test mule in October last year, the refreshed Swift was caught sporting the following features:

  • Cruise Control
  • Push Button Start
  • Keyless Entry

In terms of engines, you can be rest assured that both the cars in their facelifted avatars will continue with the same set of 85PS K-12 VVT petrol and 75PS/190Nm diesel engines.

The facelifted Swift and DZire were expected during the Auto Expo 2014, but failed to make an appearance. In place Maruti showcased the stonker Swift Sport, gorgeous Swift Volt and Dzire Opula at the biennial ritual.

According to NDTV, both, the Swift facelift as well as the Dzire facelift will be launched in the country this year and festive season is what we believe will be the time they will bow in.
