Force to Start Retailing Gurkha From Next Month; New Force One Variant Launch in February

Force Motors launched the very potent Gurkha off-roader SUV into the Indian market with a lot of fanfare earlier this year. However, interesting to note is the fact that reportedly, its retail is yet to start.

Reports point at various issues that the off-roader is marred with which have held Force back into delaying its retail sales. Though, we have seen at least one new registered Gurkha while on our way from Indore to Pune a few months back ferrying passengers, it might have been a company vehicle provided for customer feedback.

Nonetheless, here is the news. In a report published at Business Line, Force clears that it will start retailing its Gurkha off-roader from next month in January 2014 in the market. It will be sold through nearly 25 Force Motors passenger vehicle dealerships across the country.

According to the same report, Force will also launch a new variant of their One SUV in February. This is a little confusing as Force One currently has three variants – Base EX, mid SX and top of the line LX . However, Force has officially launched the EX and SX in the market (read report) and an official communication related to the LX along with its price have not been shared.

So logically, the new variant that Business Line is talking about appears to be the launch of Force One LX, unless, there exists a fourth new variant which is in pipeline. Currently, Force One’s range starts from Rs 8.99 Lakhs ex-showroom.

Force Gurkha and Force One EX carry the 2596cc OM616 diesel engine which produces 82PS of power and 230Nm of torque. This engine is BS3 compliant for now, but work is underway to make it BS4 compliant and sell it across the metro cities as well.

On the other hand Force One SX & LX is powered by the more modern 2.2L FMTECH diesel engine which produces 141PS and 321Nm and is BS4 compliant.
