Ford continue to tease us by launching EcoSport in all the markets surrounding us. China has just now got it, Nepal is also expected to get it sometime soon, however, we still await in anticipation.
Anyways, lets talk about what China has got.
Chinese EcoSport will be sold through Changan-Ford Joint Venture and has been priced at 94,800 yuan which is equal to approximately 8.27 Lakhs in Indian Rupees. EcoSport spans across to a price band of 127,800 yuan which equates to Rs 11.32 Lakhs for the top of the line variant.
There are 6 variants and EcoSport is available with a choice of 2 engine options – 1.5L 110PS/170Nm Petrol and the famed 1.0L Ecoboost which produces 125PS of power and 170Nm of torque which is available between 1500-4500 rpm. With these engines, China also gets both Manual and Automatic Transmission. Like India, the Automatic Transmission is only available with the 1.5L Petrol motor and the 1.0L Ecoboost makes do with only a 5 speed-manual gearbox.
Chinese EcoSport is 4280mm long and has a wheelbase of 2530mm with a trunk capacity of 348 liters. Minimum Ground Clearance (with full load) is 172mm. Apart from one entry level variant which gets 195/65 15 inch rubber, all other 5 models get a fatter 205/60 16 inch tyres. Right from the cheapest variant, driver passenger is standard across the range.
This means that Chinese EcoSport will be slightly longer with a larger wheelbase ensuring more interior space inside. These prices do not reflect in any way what we will get in India. In India Ford will also launch a 1.5L diesel motor and prices are expected to be cheaper because of various reasons like the lesser excise duty because of the sub 4 meter length along with high levels of localization.
Ford is currently running the Urban Discoveries Campaign and is expected to launch the EcoSport just after that somewhere around end June.
