Ford EcoSport Recalled in India for Faulty Rear Twist Beam Bolt

Ford India in an official communication has announced a voluntary recall of 16,444 units of their sub 4 meter compact SUV EcoSport. The reason given is a possible fault with the rear twist beam bolt which is a part of the rear suspension system.

EcoSports manufactured at their Chennai plant between November 2013 and April 2014 are included in the affected list of units. While there has been no accidents so far but the fault can lead to safety issues.

Here’s what the management had to say:

“In some of the affected vehicles, there is a possibility that the Rear Twist Beam (RTB) bolt may not be tightened to specification, which may cause the pivot bolt to break. This condition can potentially compromise vehicle handling and thereby increase the risk of an accident. This is a proactive voluntary action and no accidents related to the concern have been reported.”
