Ford Spotted Testing Fiesta With Automatic Gearbox

The Indian car market is maturing with each passing year. Premium features are percolating to smaller cars and we have tons of manufacturers fighting for supremacy, some for existence! Ford launched the new Fiesta in India last year but only with a diesel engine. We have known Fiesta for the sprightly 1.6 liter engine of the older-gen car and the new one missing on that was something which not many, specially the petrolheads, would have liked!

In an interesting spotting of a Fiesta mule by a Team BHP member, it is understood that Ford is testing an automatic version of the car for our markets. A sneak inside and we can spot that Automatic stick! Though it is not a confirmation, but considering that EcoSport comes with the 1.5 liter TiVCT petrol engine mated to a 6-speed powershift automatic gearbox, it appears that this Fiesta is also running on the same combo.

On the EcoSport, this 6 speed dual clutch gearbox boasts of a dry sump technology which the company claims helps in keeping it maintenance free for nearly a decade. The 1.5 litre engine produces 112 PS of maximum power at 6,300 rpm and a peak torque output of 140 Nm at 4,400 rpm.

All major competitors of Fiesta come with a petrol engine and some with automatic gearboxes. The upcoming Figo Aspire is also expected to get the same engine-gearbox combination.
