MB Reader Spies the Upcoming Handsome Foton Tunland Pickup in Pune

A few months back we received some surprising spyshots of a pick-up truck which did not appear to belong to any well-known car manufacturer we knew off. And that is when, we flipped the pages of MotorBash to understand what could it be!

The end result reported that Chinese are ready to set their foot in India and this is the first sample from them. It was the Tunland Pick-up truck from Chinese manufacturer Foton. Today, we come back with more scoop, spyshots and the latest details on the development.

Foton is China’s largest commercial vehicle manufacturer and this Tunland L is their top of the line pick-up which was unveiled in 2011. One of our regular reader Kiran Manjal, has shared these pictures of two Tunland L trucks with us which are up close and reveal the body dimensions of the mid-sized truck. Interestingly, against the regular Jerry cans we have seen on test mules, this Tunland is carrying some of your regular roadware like road signs, temporary dividers etc!

Kiran informs us that these mules were spotted somewhere at Nigdi in Pune and they are the top end variants which are loaded with airbags. Tunland carries a Cummins-sourced 2.8L turbocharged diesel engine which produces 130bhp of power but an interesting 360Nm of torque. Foton also has lower tune variants of Tunland along with single cab options on offer. Two test mules are featured here which might mean two engines/tunes are being tested. However, what we will get remains to be seen.

When we compare Tunland with our Indian Tata Xenon 2.2, we observe that this Tunland is more torquey in terms of engine specs. And it is longer, wider as well appears to be much more premium than Xenon. It carries really cool looking alloy wheels, projector headlamps and more brawny exteriors.

Foton already has a 250 acre manufacturing plant at Chakan and has an office set-up in Kalyani Nagar in Pune. We will also reveal Tunlands interiors as well as a few more bits very soon. Keep Tuned!

So will Tata Now Consider bringing the Xenon Tuff Truck Concept to India as well?
