Volvo Car Corporation is targetting to become the third largest seller of luxury car by 2020 in India . To achieve this goal the company is considering assembly operations in India to make an industrial presence, however Volvo Auto India Marketing and PR Director Sudeep Narayan said the management has not taken any decision on this.

The company sold 326 units last year, which is very insignificant as compared to the other rivals. They are aiming for 800 units this year.

As per Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM) reports, BMW is at the first place with 2088 units sold in the first quarter of this fical, second is Audi with 1908 units and at the third place is Mercedes selling 1257 units.

Narayan also reported to launch one new model every year for the next few years under product portfolio expension plan with products at the entry level of the luxury market starting from Rs 20 lakh. The company is planning to launch one new model in India in the first quarter next year, which can be seen in the Paris Auto Show this year.

Which model would Volvo be considering is yet to be seen but in all probability it is the XC40 Crossover which was caught undisguised testing a few days back internationally, spy pics of which are shown here.

Currently the company is selling sedans S80, S60 and sports utility vehicles XC90 and XC60 in India and an addition of XC40 at the bottom rivaling Audi Q3 and BMW X1 is expected to give Volvo a good hand considering the target pricing they are eying.

For the dealership expansion the company will be opening outlets in Banglore, Ahmedabad and one more in the National Capital Region to add to the existing eight outlets. For brand building Volvo has joined hands with designer Ritu Beri for the Lakme Fashion Week.
