If you did not know about this, let us tell you that General Motors Talegaon facility is the only Powertrain plant for the company in the world which manufactures petrol and diesel engines simultaneously.

Made operational in November 2010 at a cost of USD 230 million, it has just completed two years of production. In this relatively smaller tenure, the plant has reached a milestone of producing 100,000 engines on 13th December. GM attributed the fantastic response to Beat, Cruze and the latest Sail U-VA.

At an annual capacity of 1.6 Lac units with future expansion flexibility, it sure puts the company at a stronghold considering GMs ambitious plans in India. This plant currently manufactures Beat’s 1.0L and Sail’s 1.3L TCDi diesel engines along with Spark’s 1.0L and 1.2L Beat/Sail’s gasoline engines.

This plant also has the flexibility to accommodate production of another 1.4 Lac engines per year considering the future launches of Sail notchback and Enjoy MPV in a couple of months. A few days back, this plant also received EPA Energy Star Challenge Industry Award.
