Good News: Ford Ecosport to have 80 Percent Localization, This Should Mean Competitive Prices!

A lot of you got disheartened when the prices of one of the most awaited CSUV Renault Duster were revealed. However, bookings of the car have been in full swing.

Ford India announced that its coming CSUV FordEcosport will have 80 percent local content in its petrol and diesel variants. Now we know EcoSport would be a sub-4 meter car and hence would qualify for lesser 12% excise duties and major localization means Ford should be looking at a very competitive price tag for EcoSport.

This compact SUV is supposed to hit the markets by early 2013 but there are chances that Ford might be considering a launch a couple of months earlier if all the proceedings go as per plan.

Ford India President and Managing Director Michael Boneham reports that “It will be our second Global SUV Ecosport (to be rolled out from India). It will have around similar localisation levels of Figo and Classic…,“.The negotiations to have 80 percent localisation for Ecosport are still undergoing to match it up with Ford Figo and Classic (Renamed Fiesta Classic) variants which already have 80 percent contents supplied by local vendors.

The company has set up its second plant at Sanand in Gujarat after Maraimalai Nagar to produce eight new products by 2015.

The Ecosport will be launched with an EcoBoost engine which has been a revelation of sorts. Boneham also revealed about the plan of launching an upgraded version of Figo in future.
